Gay Beautiful Buenos Aires - Aerolineas Argentinas
(64cm x 97cm)
Aerolíneas Argentinas (English: Argentine Airlines), formally Aerolíneas Argentinas S.A., is Argentina's largest airline and the country's flag carrier. The airline was created in 1949 from the merger of four companies, and started operations in December 1950. A consortium led by Iberia took control of the airline in 1990, and Grupo Marsans acquired the company and its subsidiaries in 2001, following a period of severe financial difficulties that put the airline on the brink of closure. The company has been run by the Argentine government since late 2008, when the country regained control of the airline after it was taken over from the Spanish owners. As of December 2014, Aerolíneas Argentinas was state-owned. It has its headquarters in Buenos Aires.
In this charming image the artist divides the field into four sectors showing various attractions in and around Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. It is clearly a city with much activity as well as being situated close to beaches for relaxation. In the post-World War II period, as the economies of the world strengthened so did the growth of tourist travel aided by the development of newer and quicker, more comfortable aircraft.
This poster includes a small depiction of the Douglas DC - 6 airplane which was the fastest and most comfortable commercial propeller plane of that era.
The artist of the poster, Adolph Treidler (1886 - 1981), studied painting and drawing at the Henri School of Art in New York City. He created various posters for different governmental organizations during WWI, focusing in Liberty Loans posters and manufacturing efforts, particularly of women working in munitions plants. Treidler also worked on posters during WWII, as well as designing for magazines and advertisement.

If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
