Il Mattino
Il Mattino
(117cm x 164cm)
Talk about a scandalous poster! This raunchy image was created in 1896 for a newspaper, of all things. Stylistically stunning, this advertisement for the Italian daily paper, Il Mattino features the decorative elements of Art Nouveau. A beautiful nude woman reclines in ecstasy, fondling her breast and closing her eyes. She is likely to be representative of nature or Mother Earth, as Art Nouveau artists loved to reference images from the classical world. The male sun stares down at her intently, with a seaside scene between the two figures. Notice his hand, ghostlike, reaching out to touch her forearm. The entire tableau is framed ornately in a wreath of wheat and sunflowers. This rare poster was printed on two sheets of paper that have been expertly joined together into one piece in the archival linen backing process.
Giovanni Mataloni (1869 - 1944) was a prominent and influential Italian artist who advanced the Art Nouveau style with his own interpretation of the movement.
This is an original vintage poster, not a reproduction. This poster has been archivally backed onto linen and is in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
