Keep Your Red Cross At His Side
Keep Your Red Cross At His Side
(77cm x 100cm)
The Red Cross had been very important during WWI as well as during WWII. During the war years, the Red Cross tried to encourage people to donate to their War Fund and used posters like this one to promote their cause. In 1945 they had a massive fundraising; even President Roosevelt said during a speech at the end of March that it was "Red Cross month".
In 1945, March 15th to March 21st,was the Red Cross War Fund Week. In this poster we see a mention to the Motion Picture Industry, and it is because the group cooperated with the Red Cross War Fund that week. Arthur L. Mayer, deputy commissioner of the Red Cross activities in the Pacific, discussed the Fund with the Motion Picture Industry representatives in Chicago and told them that "food and films were among the greatest morale builders to men on the front and hospitals".
The poster shows a nurse from the Red Cross and a soldier, both beneficiaries of the War Fund.

If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
