A classic tale of young love is on display in this poster created by Jacques Wely in 1898 for the Operetta, "Les Demoiselles des St. Cyriens". A fashionable young woman disrupts her game of badminton when she notices a young militiaman staring at her beyond the garden wall. We catch them mid-glance, suspended in intrigue. Saint Cyr le E'cole is a suburb of Paris that was home to the training school for officers of the French Army until WWII.

This operetta was shown at the Theatre Cluny in Paris in 1898, and featured music by Louis Varney. Varney was known for his arrangements for the opera, and was actually born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. The artist is Jacques Wely (1873 - 1910), who created some posters but was mainly known for his paintings and drawings of everyday modern Parisian life.

This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
