During the Second World War, there was a constant concern in the United States about inappropriate information being overheard by enemy agents both domestically and abroad. During 1942, a specific group of posters based on the title Loose Talk Can Cost Lives was launched.
This is one of the images from that campaign, in this case showing Hitler eavesdropping on 2 laborers casual conversation of beers.
Cecil Calvert (C. C.) Beall (1892-1967) was an American commercial illustrator, who specialized in portraiture. His is known for his watercolor style which emphasized bold contrasts in the popular realist style of the WWII era. He served as Art Director for the Democratic National Party. During WWII, Beall served as a war correspondent Beall and was an eyewitness to the 1945 Japanese surrender on the S.S. Missouri.
Beall studied under painter George Brant Bridgman at the Art Students League in New York City. Beall's clients included many of the major magazines publications, such as Collier's, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, Saturday Evening Post, and many more.
