Arrondel or commonly spelled today, Arundel, is a market town located in West Sussex, England. It is named for the River Arun that runs along the eastern area of the city. The town has conserved many of its older sections, which include Arundel Castle built by the Normans, and Arundel Roman Catholic cathedral, which houses the seat of the Bishop of Arundel and Brighton.
The Post Office Savings Bank was formed in 1861 as part of a plan to finance the public debt. It allowed for accessible savings accounts for the lower -middle class. The history of banking in the United Kingdom had coalesced around major cities and catered to upper society. With the development of the Post Office Savings Bank, a majority of the citizenship, including those in rural areas, had access to secure banking. The banks also served as an important outlet for investments and sold Government Bonds and War Savings Certificates. Today, the Post Office Savings Bank operates under a new identity, National Savings and Investments.
