This rare vintage poster by Leonetto Cappiello (1875–1942) was created to advertise Sancta, a liqueur produced by the Abbaye de Faverney in France. The dramatic image shows a radiant woman in a golden gown, haloed with powerful sunbursts of light, holding a luminous bottle of Sancta. Against a deep background accented with swirling colors, the figure appears both saintly and theatrical, underscoring the product’s name and its association with divine or miraculous qualities.Sancta was promoted as the “Liqueur Merveilleuse de l’Abbaye de Faverney” (Marvelous Liqueur of the Abbey of Faverney). The abbey, located in eastern France near Haute-Saône, was historically known for its Benedictine monastic traditions. Like many monasteries in Europe, the abbey developed liqueurs and herbal concoctions as part of its medicinal and culinary heritage. Sancta was one of several French monastic-style liqueurs marketed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period when herbal digestifs and cordials enjoyed great popularity both in France and abroad.Leonetto Cappiello, born in Livorno, Italy, is celebrated as one of the most important figures in early 20th-century poster design. Often called “the father of modern advertising,” Cappiello revolutionized poster art by abandoning the intricate detail of Art Nouveau and instead using bold figures, bright colors, and strong contrasts against plain backgrounds. His approach created instantly memorable images for products ranging from beverages and liqueurs to theaters and consumer goods. To learn more about the career of Cappiello, please follow this link: https://postergroup.com/blogs/the-ross-art-group-blog/for-the-love-of-cappielloThis is a very rare Original Vintage Poster, it is not a reproduction.
