This original French travel poster promotes the winter sports destination of Superbagnères-Luchon in the Pyrenees, accessed via the Chemins de Fer du Midi railway. Three skiers descend a snowy mountain in coordinated yet casual formation, rendered in bright, modern colors that highlight motion and the fashionable energy of France’s interwar ski culture. The elegant forms, minimal background, and strong diagonals convey a sense of modern leisure and upward mobility, reflecting the growing popularity of alpine tourism in the 1920s and 1930s. The Grand Hôtel, perched above the slopes, anchors the scene as a symbol of refined resort life.Leonetto Cappiello (1875–1942) was born in Livorno, Italy, and became one of the most influential figures in early 20th-century advertising design. After moving to Paris in 1898, he began his career as a caricaturist before transitioning to large-format poster art in the early 1900s. He is widely regarded as the father of the modern advertising poster, replacing the painterly Art Nouveau style with bold, simplified imagery designed for instant visual impact. Known for his humorous characters, vivid colors, and strong silhouettes, Cappiello created iconic works for brands such as Maurin Quina, Chocolat Klaus, Cinzano, and Savon du Congo. His posters helped define the visual language of commercial modernism and remain highly sought after by collectors. To learn more about the artwork of Cappiello, please follow this link: https://postergroup.com/blogs/the-ross-art-group-blog/for-the-love-of-cappielloThis is an Original Vintage Poster, it is not a reproduction.
