
The Olympic spirit is abound in this c.1920 French liquor advertisement for P. Taillan Vermoutherie by the artist, Mich. The artwork features a delighted gentleman who is surprised by the enjoyment of sports emanating from his glass of Vermouth. He wears a hat, whose elaborate feathers emulate the flags of the participating countries. This poster was most likely created at the time of the 1920 Summer Olympics held in Antwerp, Belgium. Mich was the perfect artist for this advertisement given his focus on sports related advertising.
Michel Liebeaux (1881-1923), better known as Mich, was a poster artist active in the early twentieth century. Although his career was short, he produced a number of well-known French posters in the area of bicycles and automobiles. He was also an illustrator for the premier French auto-racing paper, L'Auto.
