The SNCF is the Societe Nationale de Chemin de Fer - The National Rail Service. Throughout the years, they commissioned prominent artists to depict well known destinations in France, thereby encouraging train travel by the French as well as by foreign visitors. In this 1946 poster by Vecoux, the rugged terrain of the Basque Coast is on display. Jai Alai is being played at a court in the foreground, as the coastline winds along in the distance.
