In the period after World War II, many countries were competing for attention in the growing tourist trade. Spain launched a campaign to highlight its many attractions and produced these images in Spanish, English, and other languages. This poster depicts a young Spanish woman classical dressed in a flowing skirt with underpinnings of lace carrying an elegant fan. It is symbolic of some of the beauty of Spain that is unique to the country and is suggestive of the flamenco dance.

The creator of this poster, Guy Georget (1911-1992) first entered the poster advertising world in the late 1940’s. His first artworks for travel posters exhibited a clear Picasso/Matisse influence. In 1960, Georget designed the logo for La Poste, the French national postal service. He was well known for his many designs for Air France as well as Philips Electronics.
