One of the many perils of World War One was the overall issue of food shortages both overseas and abroad. The United States Government issued posters such as this one, to encourage the domestic farm workers to produce even more than normal to support the war effort. By showing the tireless French women working in the fields, the American workers were being shown an example of dedication and sacrifice with the implication that the American workers should expend no less effort than their French counterparts.
