Jane Marny was a French actress and singer who was active in the 1930’s and 1940’s in France. Like many other entertainers at the time of the creation of this poster in 1930, they commissioned an artist to dreate a favorable image of themselves in a poster and they would then distribute that image in advance of their performances during a tour of the country. Many other French performers including Josephine Baker and Maurice Chevalier used similarly styled posters in that era. It signified that the artist was of some prominence and worthwhile seeing in performance.
The artist of this image was Jean Don (1900 – 1985) who an artist as well as an illustrator. He had a small body of work in the field of posters and they are well crafted and attractive graphics.
