Kina Lillet Rugby
Kina Lillet Rugby
(58cm x 79cm)
This poster for the French aperitif Kina Lillet comes from a sport series created by Andre Galland (1886-1965) for the company between 1925 and 1935. Kina Lillet is an aperitif wine made from a blend of Bordeaux wines and citrus liqueur, invented in 1887 by brothers Pierre and Raymond Lillet. It was white, which made it different than the other aperitifs that were red. I was also the first aperitif to come from a specific geographic location, Bordeaux.
The poster depicts two teams playing rugby. The space left blank at the bottom was intended to announce the different matches. Galland created a series of posters representing football, rugby and basketball for Kina Lillet. Andre Galland was a French artist that started his career illustrating children's books and magazines. He also worked designing posters for private clients and humoristic political comic strips. After the war, he covered the Nuremberg trial drawing sketches of the audience. He continued to illustrate children's books, magazines and creating comics until the end of his life.
This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition.

If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
