Le Valois - Carigiet

This original vintage Swiss travel poster, Le Valais – Beautiful Switzerland, was designed by Alois Carigiet in 1944 and published in 1945 by the Swiss National Tourist Office as part of its celebrated La Suisse Terre de Beauté (Beautiful Switzerland) series. The poster presents a picturesque Valais mountain village with traditional wooden chalets set against the dramatic peaks of the Swiss Alps. Alois Carigiet (1902–1985) was one of Switzerland's most important twentieth-century artists, renowned for both his travel posters and his illustrations for the classic children's book Schellen-Ursli. Trained as a graphic designer, Carigiet created many of Switzerland's most memorable tourism posters during the 1930s and 1940s before devoting himself primarily to painting and book illustration. His bold use of color and expressive, highly personal style helped redefine Swiss travel advertising and remain instantly recognizable today.The Beautiful Switzerland series is considered one of the finest postwar travel poster campaigns produced by the Swiss National Tourist Office. Printed by Wolfsberg in Zürich using the stone lithographic process, these posters celebrated the country's diverse landscapes and played an important role in promoting Switzerland as a premier international travel destination.
