This poster from 1945 was designed by Albert Dorne (1906-1965) and commissioned by the Office of Defense Transportation. The image shows a smiley man, relaxed sitting in his armchair while reading, smoking and drinking lemonade. He is enjoying the air from the fan and the company of his dog. There is a picture of a soldier on the shelves, most likely his son. He is staying home for the summer, not using public transport or facilities that can be used for WWII purposes instead.

The Office of Defense Transportation was established in 1941 to coordinate and direct the utilization of domestic transportation facilities during the war, so that they were used to help the war efforts.

The artist of the poster, Albert Dorne, learned how to draw after spending hours every week in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He began his artistic career as an apprentice letterer and working in an art studio, before starting as a freelance illustrator. His works appeared in many magazines such as Life and The Saturday Evening Post, and in 1943 American Artist magazine recognized him as one of the best and highest paid in the field of advertising illustration. In 1948 Dorne opened the Famous Artists School, a correspondence school for art that had Norman Rockwell as a teacher, among other famous artists.
