Montreux Jazz 1983 - Orange Man
Montreux Jazz 1983 - Orange Man
(69cm x 99cm)
This poster, by Keith Haring, advertises the 1983 Montreux Jazz Festival. The poster comes in alternating sets of color combinations, all of which use green, yellow, orange and pink.
The Montreux Jazz Festival is a music festival held annually on Lake Geneva’s shoreline in Switzerland in early July. It is the second largest jazz festival in the world after Canada’s Montreal International Jazz Festival. In 1983, the Festival’s key performers were Buddy Guy, Fats Domino, Herbie Hancock and John Lee Hooker.
Keith Haring (1958-1990) was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. Moving to New York City in 1978 to attend School of Visual Arts, Haring began using the city as his canvas, creating drawings in subway stations. Haring’s work uses the mechanics and colors typified in Pop Art and the stylistic tendencies of graffiti, or street art. Haring’s work explores deeper themes of love, activism and the ensuing political climate of New York in the 1980’s. Haring's work can be viewed in prestigious museums such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.

If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
