The energy of Spain arrives in Paris in this lively image by Jules Cheret for the Nouveu Cirque's latest show, "The Seville Fair". It depicts the height of Parisian Belle Epoque revelry; beautiful women, live music, and tons of fun to be had! The Nouveau Cirque was a circus venue in the heart of Paris, run by Moulin Rouge co-owner, Joseph Oller. It was one of the only places in Paris at the time to be completely lit by electricity, and formal attire was required for admittance. The Nouveau Cirque operated from 1886 - 1926.

Jules Cheret (1836-1932) was known as the "Father of the Modern Poster". He was a French painter and lithographer who traveled to England as an apprentice and introduced the latest lithography techniques to French culture. Paired with his creativity and artistic flair, Cheret began creating advertisements for cabarets, music halls, and theaters. His artwork is typified by his influence of the Rococo movement to create vivid advertising, often featuring free-spirited young women that became known as "Cherettes". These figures have become quintessential Belle Epoque imagery. Cheret's posters earned him a gold medal at the Paris World's Fair in 1889.

This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in very good condition. There is some minor uneven coloring in the margins, none affecting the image as well as some slight, unobtrusive folds. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

  • The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
