This impressive original vintage poster was created by Leonetto Cappiello for Persil, one of the world's earliest self-acting laundry detergents. Measuring 51.25 x 78.75 inches, this oversize format advertising poster is considerably scarcer than the standard Persil issues and represents one of the most striking examples of the company's early advertising. Cappiello depicts a lively white figure leaping across a deep brown background while triumphantly holding a package of Persil aloft. The brilliant white figure immediately communicates the product's whitening power, while the bold yellow Persil lettering and the slogan, "Économise le Linge – Blanchit par l'Oxygène Sans Brûler" ("Preserves Fabrics – Whitens with Oxygen Without Burning"), emphasize the detergent's ability to clean effectively while protecting fabrics.Introduced by the German company Henkel in 1907, Persil was the first commercially successful detergent to combine washing and bleaching agents in a single product. Its oxygen-based formula represented a major innovation in household laundry products, reducing the labor required for washing while producing brighter, whiter fabrics. Through memorable advertising campaigns such as this one, Persil quickly established itself as one of Europe's leading household brands.Leonetto Cappiello (1875–1942) is widely regarded as the father of the modern advertising poster. Born in Livorno, Italy, he moved to Paris at the end of the nineteenth century and revolutionized commercial poster design by replacing the elaborate Art Nouveau style with bold, simplified compositions built around a single unforgettable image. His dramatic use of vibrant color set against dark backgrounds created instantly recognizable advertisements that transformed the way products were marketed. Today, Cappiello's posters remain among the most sought-after works in the field of original vintage poster collecting. To learn more about the artwork of Cappiello, please follow this link:https://postergroup.com/blogs/the-ross-art-group-blog/for-the-love-of-cappielloThis is an Original Vintage Poster, it is not a reproduction.
