PLM Talloires - Lac d'Annecy
PLM Talloires - Lac d'Annecy
(76cm x 107cm)
An escape from Paris to the shores of Lake Annecy in the French Alps is an appealing idea today, just as it was in 1910 when this charming poster was created. A carefree couple has taken the Paris - Lyon - Mediterranee train line (P.L.M.) to the resort town of Talloires for a vacation. They look from their perch in Talloires across the Lake to the historic Chateau de Duingt, a castle on an island that was built in the 11th Century. The drama of the French Alps meeting the shores of Lake Annecy (Lac d’Annecy in French) plays out in the background.
This poster was created, quite unusually, by a father and son duo. The father, Paul Albert Besnard (1884 - 1934), was a highly esteemed academic painter. He won the Grand Prix de Rome for his paintings, and was the director of the famed Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His eldest son, Robert is the second half of the team behind this image. Considerably less is known about him, although he was a frequent subject of his father’s prints and paintings.
This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. There is a slight darkening of the edges of the margin from the poster having been previously framed. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
