This dynamic and visually arresting poster for Pneu Russian American by Leonetto Cappiello is a brilliant expression of speed, balance, and modern innovation. The bold typography and international branding reinforce the product’s modern appeal, positioning it as a cutting-edge innovation in an era defined by rapid industrial and automotive advancement. This is a rare variant poster. The tires promoted in this poster were produced by the Russian-American Rubber Manufacture Association, later known as “Treugolnik” (meaning “Triangle”), one of the most significant rubber manufacturing enterprises of its time. Founded in 1860 in Saint Petersburg by Hamburg merchant Ferdinand Krauskopf and his associates, the company quickly rose to prominence through its production of rubber overshoes, eventually holding a national monopoly in that sector by the end of the 19th century. By the early 20th century, the firm had expanded dramatically, becoming the largest producer of rubber goods in both Russia and Europe. Its product range grew to include industrial rubber materials and, notably during World War I, automobile tire casings, gas masks, and artillery components. In 1908, the company formally adopted the name “Treugolnik,” and following the Russian Revolution, it was nationalized in 1918 and renamed “Krasny Treugolnik” (“Red Triangle”). The “Russian American” branding seen here reflects the company’s international roots and ambitions, emphasizing both its origins and its global industrial reach.Leonetto Cappiello (1875–1942) was an Italian-born artist who became one of the most influential poster designers of the early 20th century, working primarily in Paris. Often regarded as the father of modern advertising, Cappiello broke from the ornate traditions of Art Nouveau by introducing bold, simplified compositions centered around a single striking figure. His use of dark backgrounds, vibrant colors, and imaginative characters allowed brands to stand out instantly in the crowded visual landscape of early 20th-century cities. Among his most celebrated works are posters for Cinzano, Campari, Maurin Quina, and many Cognacs, all of which exemplify his innovative approach and enduring appeal. To learn more about the artwork of Cappiello, please follow this link: https://postergroup.com/blogs/the-ross-art-group-blog/for-the-love-of-cappielloThis is an Original Vintage Poster, it is not a reproduction.
