Porsche 1000km Rennen Nurburgring
Porsche 1000km Rennen Nurburgring
(76cm x 101cm)
This poster was created by Porsche to celebrate their drivers' win at the 1970 Rennen Nurburgring 1000km Formula One race. The winning race car team was comprised of drivers Vic Elford and Kurt Ahrens, Jr. The Nurburgring racetrack is located in Nurburg, which in 1970 was located in West Germany. The Nordschleife "North loop" track would have been used for this race, which was built in the 1920s around the village and medieval castle of Nurburg and surrounded by mountains. This track is considered one of the hardest and most dangerous routes in European professional car racing. It is the traditional host of the German Grand Prix and is regularly used for Formula One racing.
This poster was created by Atelier Strenger - Reichert, an art studio known for their clean lines and enticing color combinations. At the helm of the firm was Erich Strenger (1922 - 1993), who helped form the identity of Porsche across all marketing efforts. Strenger worked for Porsche for over 30 years.
Ferdinand Porsche began his famed automotive business in Germany in 1931, and it originally started as a parts manufacturer that supplied Volkswagen. During WWII, Porsche created military tanks and supplies. It was not until 1948 that Porsche produced its first sportscar. Ever since, Porsche has been known on the racing circuit as well as a high performance sports and luxury car for the consumer markets.

If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
