Rocamadour is a historic village built dramatically into the cliffs above the Alzou Canyon in the Lot region of southwestern France. This vibrant poster presents a sweeping view of the town’s distinctive vertical layout, where stone buildings rise in stepped formation up the face of the cliff. The image captures the sun-drenched village tucked into a lush landscape, with ochre-colored rooftops, layered architecture, and a mix of evergreen and autumnal foliage. A wide valley opens in the background, hinting at the rural expanse beyond.
This poster was issued by the Chemin de Fer de Paris à Orléans to promote Rocamadour as a destination accessible via train and automobile circuits. The town’s unique layout and cliffside construction make it one of the most visually striking sites in the Lot region.
Pierre Commarmond (1897–1983) was a French painter and poster artist known for his travel images throughout France. His work is often noted for its painterly approach, with soft color transitions and romanticized landscapes. While less geometric than other posterists of his era, Commarmond’s designs remain highly collectible for their atmospheric style and regional specificity.
This is an Original Vintage Poster. It is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all our posters.
