Service To Industry - Devon Trawlers

Created in 1955 by Frank Henry Mason for British Railways’ Western Region, this original vintage poster was issued as part of the railway’s “Service to Industry” series. The campaign promoted the important role of the newly nationalized British Railways in supporting British commerce and industry. Contemporary references identify Mason’s Brixham design as a 1955 British Railways Western Region commission in this series. His knowledge of ships and the sea made him especially well-suited to railway advertising featuring Britain’s ports and coastal destinations. Mason produced numerous posters for the British railway companies, and his work became known for its strong composition, atmospheric handling of water and detailed portrayal of working vessels. He was among the notable artists employed by the Great Western Railway and later British Railways to create their distinctive advertising imagery.
