This clever Air France poster hihglights the variety of bucolic locations the airline can take you throughout the world - from the cathedrals of France to the Swiss countryside and the maritime beauty of Italy. The bright, collage-like style is signature to the artist, Jacques Nathan-Garamond. Air France was formed in 1933 through a merger of several smaller international companies. These smaller airlines had already built extensive networks across the world, and when combined under the Air France umbrella they created an exciting accessibility to fliers. Air France remains one of the most highly regarded international airlines, servicing 78 countries around the world. It served as France's primary national flag carrier for seven decades prior to its 2003 merger with KLM. Posters have always been essential to Air France’s communications. It has one of the greatest collections in the world with over 1500 posters created by the most famous illustrators. Air France posters are usually striking, with few words, and depict destinations as dream-like and air travel as making dreams come true. Jacques Nathan-Garamond (1910 - 2001) was a French graphic designer. He studied at École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and served as Director of Contemporary Architecture before his career as a designer. After the war, Nathan-Garamond became a graphic designer and designed a piece for 1949 UNESCO exposition on the Rights of Man. He also created commercial designs for corporations like Mazda, Air France and Telefunken. He later founded the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) and served as a professor at the International School and professor at the École Supérieure d'Arts Graphiques Penninghen. His works are in permanent collections of major institutions such as Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
