This stunning original vintage poster by Lucien Boucher (1889–1971) is among his most sought-after designs for Air France. Created in the 1950s, it showcases the airline’s extensive global network, weaving the signs of the Zodiac into an intricate and imaginative composition. Rich in detail, Boucher’s work invites closer examination, revealing a mesmerizing fusion of celestial symbolism and world travel. This is the smallest of three formats in which the poster was printed.

Lucien Boucher was a celebrated French graphic artist and illustrator, best known for his striking Air France travel posters. He began his career as a cartoonist for *Le Rire*, a renowned French humor magazine, before transitioning to advertising, where he explored elements of Surrealism and Art Deco. His distinctive mid-century style seamlessly blended these influences with traditional painting techniques, creating a fresh and timeless visual language.

Boucher’s *Planisphere* series, produced for Air France between 1934 and 1962, remains a benchmark in travel advertising. These imaginative maps chronicled the airline’s expanding routes, evolving over time with new artistic approaches. His work is widely regarded as a defining example of mid-century graphic design and remains highly prized by collectors.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.
