Cinzano was founded in 1757 in Turin, Italy, by brothers Giovanni Giacomo and Carlo Stefano Cinzano. Originally, they were herbalists who created aromatic wines and vermouths using local botanicals. Their vermouth quickly gained popularity in the Piedmont region and later throughout Italy.
By the 19th century, the company began expanding its reach beyond Italy, introducing its products to international markets.
Asti Cinzano, a sweet sparkling wine made from Moscato Bianco grapes, was developed as part of the company's expanding portfolio of wines. This style of Asti Spumante became one of the most recognizable products of the brand, known for its refreshing sweetness and festive appeal.
During the 20th century, Cinzano became a globally recognized name, exporting its wines and vermouths to numerous countries. The brand was associated with luxury and sophistication.
In 1999, Cinzano was acquired by Gruppo Campari, one of Italy's largest beverage companies. Today, Cinzano remains one of Italy’s most famous producers of vermouth and sparkling wines, including Asti Cinzano. It is widely enjoyed around the world, particularly as a celebratory drink or an aperitif.
The image was created in the distinct style of Leonetto Cappiello in 1920. The stark contrast between the black background and the colorful detailed image exemplifies the best of Cappiello's stylistic genius. Leonetto Cappiello (1875-1942) was an Italian poster artist who worked in Paris. He is known for modernizing advertising design for the 20th Century. His compositions are uncomplicated and often feature a graceful figure with an oversized rendition of the product against a simple color background. The typography is often minimized to be as direct and short as possible. This innovation allowed for the advertising to be eye-catching and understood at a moments’ glance. It was ideal for the fast paced travel and attention of busy city life.
