This original vintage travel poster by Roger Broders was commissioned by the Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée (PLM) railway to promote travel to the historic city of Avignon in the south of France. Broders depicts the iconic Pont Saint-Bénézet in the foreground, with the majestic Palais des Papes rising behind it, bathed in warm Provençal light. The architecture is rendered in crisp, clean lines typical of Broders’ signature Art Deco style, while the simplified color palette evokes the heat and drama of the southern French landscape.
Roger Broders (1883 – 1953) was a French illustrator and graphic artist best known for his iconic travel posters created during the 1920s and early 1930s. Working primarily for the PLM railway, he produced fewer than 100 posters in total, yet each is celebrated for its precise composition, bold use of color, and elegant portrayal of French leisure destinations—from the Alps to the Riviera. Broders’ background in fine art, combined with his keen eye for design, made him one of the most sought-after poster artists of his time. His posters remain highly collectible today for their visual clarity and timeless appeal.
This is an Original Vintage Poster, it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all our posters.
This English language version is very rare as most were printed with French text.
