The SNCF is the Societe Nationale de Chemin de Fer - The National Rail Service. Throughout the years, they commissioned prominent artists to depict well known destinations in France, thereby encouraging train travel by the French as well as by foreign visitors. In this 1950 poster by Herve Baille (1896-1974), the culinary treats of France are on display. A chef stands before his favorite dishes, with a map of France's gastronomic regions on display in the map behind him. The message here is clear; eat your way through France via SNCF's trains!
