Clever design is on display in this Art Nouveau poster for Cycles Perfecta by Achille Butteri. Each member of this dapper cycling family looks in a different direction, and as viewers we're forced to focus first on the bicycle at the center. It is an effective advertisement that works double duty as a beautiful piece of art.
Achille Butteri plays with the Art Nouveau stylings of flattened planes, most notably in each riders' outfit. The Art Nouveau school was heavily influenced by the flattened planes of Japanese woodblock prints, first widely seen in France and the Western World around this time. Art Nouveau is closely related to the Arts and Crafts movement of decor and architecture; both were embraced by artists attempting to reject the clinical and rote designs stemming from the Industrial Revolution. Alphons Mucha and Gustav Klimt are two of the most well-known artists to work in this style.
Cycles Perfecta was a British bicycle company that also sold its products in France. At the end of the 19th Century, the bicycle was the growing mode of transportation for most people. Faced with the rising interest in the newly invented automobile, bicycle companies made effective use of the poster medium to promote their products.
This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

What Does 'Original' Mean?
