The Basque Coast is a 1953 English language travel advertisement by Bernard Villemot (1909-1989) for the French Railway. The French Railway is known as SNCF, Societe Nationale de Chemin de Fer. Throughout the years, they have commissioned prominent artists to depict well known destinations in France to encourage train travel by the French public and visitors.
The Basque Coast is located at the southern border of France shared by Spain. This poster depicts some of the leisure activities that can be enjoyed on the Basque Coast, such as golf, horseback riding, and relaxing at the beach. Villemot's art style with its loose sweeping brushstrokes evokes a relaxing feel to the viewer.
