The Mediterranean seaside town of Menton is surely full of "Sea, Mountain, and Wonder" as seen in this lively poster by Constantin Terechkovitch (1902-1978). In Terechkovitch's distinctive style, we have a view of the waterline in Menton and it's inviting setting. The poster was commissioned by the town of Menton to promote a music festival in the mid 1960's.
Menton is located in the Cote d'Azur region of France, along the Mediterranean Sea. It used to divide France and Genoa before Italy unified in the late 1880s. Although historically a popular tourism town for hundreds of years, Menton rose in prominence in the 1800s as a town to breathe in fresh air in the hopes of curing tuberculosis. It is still popular today as a quieter town along the coast.
Constantin Terechkovitch was a Russian-born painter who spent most of his life and career in France. He was involved in the School of Paris and Montparnasse circles of Bonnard, Picasso, and other important artists of the time. His style is influenced by both Impressionism and Fauvism.
