An older coal worker smiles at us in this WWII poster by Norman Rockwell. The goal of this campaign was to recruit more workers to become coal miners, in an effort to boost America's supply of the important fossil fuel. To the best of our knowledge, this rare poster has never appeared at auction in this size format.
Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) was a renowned American artist and illustrator best known for his Saturday Evening Post cover illustrations. Rockwell's style had broad appeal to Americans for its approachability and sentimentality. He was prolific in his paintings, over which over 4,000 were created. During WWII, many of his works were done as advertising posters for the US Government.
