The beginning of the 20th Century witnessed the dawn of the era of the automobile. The early autimobiles were often open air with no roof. Such is the case with this illustration by the artist, Georges Meunier, where we see the motorist in his long coat standing next to the beautiful young girl trying to convince her to join him in his automobile. In the background we see the passenger from the car trying to forcibly bring the woman to the automobile. Both men are dressed in long coats to protect against the elements when riding in the open air vehicle.

Georges Meunier (1869-1042) was a talented artist who created a small body of posters between 1894 - 1910. He was born in Saint Cloud, France and trained in Paris at the National School of Fine Arts. He worked at the Chaix Print Studios under Jules Cheret and clearly emulated Cheret's style with Meunier's flair for humor.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

  • The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
