Colorful, crowded, and lively, this poster by Peter Young vividly delivers the heat and excitement of attending the Newport Jazz Festival in the summer. Known for abstract painting style, Young skillfully weaved careful composition of patterns and shapes into what seems to be a clash of the palette. Without any unnecessary imagery, the poster draws our attention with its vibrant colors and then directs us to the dates and locations where we can be part of that full of live festival.

Newport Jazz Festival is an annual music festival that has been held in summer since 1954. Originally founded in Newport, Rhode Island, the festival was moved to New York City in 1972 and called Newport Jazz Festival-New York before moving back to its birthplace in 1981. Celebrating its 20th annual festival, the music lovers from everywhere gathered in New York City for 10 days and nights with more than 50 concerts in 13 locations around the town. The festival was opened by Gery Mulligan and included performers like George Benson, Gil Evans, Ed Blackwell, and others. In the 10-day festival, over 1000 musicians performed and made it the biggest Jazz event in history at the time.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.
