This poster was created by Porsche to celebrate their first place win at the 1972 Edmonton Can -Am car race. The first place winner was American Porsche driver Mark Donohue, who won racing a Porsche 917 Turbo vehicle. Mark Donohue was known in the racing industry by the nicknames "Captain Nice" and "Dark Donohue", and was well respected for his ability to set up his own race car. He passed away in 1975 in a Formula One crash in Austria.

Ferdinand Porsche began his famed automotive business in Germany in 1931, and it originally started as a parts manufacturer that supplied Volkswagen. During WWII, Porsche created military tanks and supplies. It was not until 1948 that Porsche produced its first sportscar. Ever since, Porsche has been known on the racing circuit as well as a high performance sports and luxury car for the consumer markets.
