This poster was created by Porsche to celebrate Mark Donohue's win at the 1973 Can-Am race held in Watkins Glen, New York. Mark Donohue was known in the racing industry by the nicknames "Captain Nice" and "Dark Donohue", and was well respected for his ability to set up his own race car. He passed away in 1975 in a Formula One crash in Austria.

This poster was created by Atelier Strenger - Reichert, an art studio known for their clean lines and enticing color combinations. At the helm of the firm was Erich Strenger (1922 - 1993), who helped form the identity of Porsche across all marketing efforts. Strenger worked for Porsche for over 30 years.

Ferdinand Porsche began his famed automotive business in Germany in 1931, and it originally started as a parts manufacturer that supplied Volkswagen. During WWII, Porsche created military tanks and supplies. It was not until 1948 that Porsche produced its first sportscar. Ever since, Porsche has been known on the racing circuit as well as a high performance sports and luxury car for the consumer markets.

Please note that this poster ships from our European warehouse, and may take from 10 days to 2 weeks to arrive to you once your order is processed.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

  • The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
