This dynamic poster was created to promote the Priceless Oil brand around 1930. Native American imagery was often employed to add an exotic or adventurous quality to advertisements. In a time when Western audiences were fascinated by "exotic" cultures, Native American figures were used to evoke a sense of the untamed and the mysterious, appealing to the imagination and curiosity of consumers. It also may be a reference to the Osage Nation, a Native American tribe from Oklahoma, that was rich in oil in the early 1900s.

The coverage of the globe with oil signifies its universal value and essential role in powering various aspects of everyday life. It implies that oil is a fundamental and invaluable resource, crucial to economic and technological progress.

Georges De Laurencin (1906–1981) was a French artist and graphic designer renowned for his work in mid-20th-century poster art and commercial design. Active during a transformative period in graphic arts, he created visually striking and modernist designs that reflected the aesthetic trends of his time. De Laurencin’s contributions to advertising and cultural promotion were marked by bold graphics and innovative use of color. Though less celebrated than some of his contemporaries, his work remains significant for its impact on modern design and visual communication.
