A steamboat pulls up to port in Lake Lucerne in this charming image by Alois Carigiet. The towering Alps play cheerful backdrop as lofty clouds drift by. This bilingual travel poster was printed by the Swiss National Tourist Bureau in 1945 to promote travel to the Central region of the country. It was likely printed in both English and French to appeal to travelers from both nations, during a time of renewed travel after the end of WWII.
Alois Carigiet (1902-1985) was a Swiss illustrator and graphic designer best known for his children's book illustrations. His style is loosely influenced by Fauvism and Expressionism.
