During World War I, posters were an essential way to get information out to the general population. This Original Vintage Poster was designed by Adolph Treidler in 1918 for the U.S. Food Administration. Highlighted below a portrait of President Wilson is an excerpt of a speech he made on November 11, 1918 in front of Congress to announce the end of WWI. As part of the armistice agreement, America would provide food to Holland, Switzerland, Russia, and Germany to prevent rioting and starvation.

In 1917, President Woodrow Wilson created the U.S. Food Administration which operated offices in each state. The Administration was created to conserve and supply the distribution of food during the war, facilitate transport of food, and retain governmental authority over food through voluntary agreements. There were multiple efforts made during the war to conserve food. The USFA's first director was Herbert Hoover. It was he who coined the phrase that "Food will win the war". With the support of the Council of Defense and other government organizations, he encouraged homeowners to sign pledges testifying to their efforts to conserve food. This resulted in 'Meatless Mondays', 'Porkless Saturdays' and so forth. The Food Administration prevailed by combining patriotism and advertising; they so even went so far as to create their own advertising division.

The artist of the poster, Adolph Treidler (1886 - 1981), studied painting and drawing at the Henri School of Art in New York City. He created various posters for different governmental organizations during WWI, focusing in Liberty Loans posters and manufacturing efforts, particularly of women working in munitions plants. Treidler also worked on posters during WWII, as well as designing for magazines and advertisement. Treidler portrayed Bermuda as a calming and inviting destination in the series of 1950's posters he created.
