This original American World War II poster, created by Steve Broder in 1942, celebrates the international alliance formed to defeat the Axis powers. Published by the United States Office of War Information (OWI), the poster features a dramatic black-and-white image of the Statue of Liberty alongside the colorful flags of 30 Allied nations. The stark black background emphasizes the flags and the bold declaration, “The United Nations Fight for Freedom.”The poster commemorates the Declaration by United Nations, signed on January 1, 1942, by 26 countries committed to defeating Germany, Italy, and Japan. The agreement established a united military effort and prohibited its signatories from negotiating separate peace treaties. The flags of the United States, Great Britain, Soviet Russia, and China occupy the top row, reflecting their leadership of the Allied coalition. This wartime alliance provided the foundation for the establishment of the United Nations in 1945.Steve Broder (1902–1992) was a Canadian-American commercial artist and graphic designer recognized for his contributions to American wartime propaganda. Working with the Office of War Information during World War II, Broder designed posters intended to strengthen public morale and encourage support for the Allied cause. His graphic approach combined recognizable patriotic imagery, strong typography, and direct visual messages. The United Nations Fight for Freedom is among his best-documented works and is represented in the collections of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Poster House in New York. This is an original vintage poster from 1942, professionally linen backed and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
