This bold and humorous advertising poster was created C1910 by Leonetto Cappiello (1875–1942), the Italian-born artist widely regarded as the father of the modern advertising poster. It promotes Uricure, a medicinal product marketed for the treatment of rheumatism, arthritis, gout, and kidney stones. This example is the Spanish-language version of a design originally issued in French.

The joyful, bearded figure in a flowing red robe leaps energetically across the dark background while holding a box of Uricure aloft. His exaggerated movement and cheerful expression suggest renewed vitality and freedom from pain. The striking contrast between the bright red costume and the black ground creates the instant visual impact for which Cappiello is famous. Rather than depicting medicine in a clinical setting, Cappiello uses humor and fantasy to communicate the promise of relief, transforming the product into a symbol of restored health and happiness.

Today, this poster is considered one of the rarer and more visually captivating examples of Cappiello’s work. To learn more about the artwork of Cappiello, please follow this link: https://postergroup.com/blogs/the-ross-art-group-blog/for-the-love-of-cappiello.
