Bal Tabarin - Small
Bal Tabarin - Small
(40cm x 60cm)
This rare and important poster by famed poster artist, Paul Colin is an excellent example of simple but dramatic poster design. Colin, using only three colors, honors the storied past of the Bal Tabarin nightclub while portraying it as the height of Jazz Age modernity at the same time.
The Bal Tabarin opened in 1904 in Paris and was known for its nightly performances of that Belle Epoque staple dance, the Can Can. In the 1920s, the club was revitalized with the introduction of the Charleston. Both dances can be seen in this clever design, showing off the Bal Tabarin as a watering hole with both history and an eye on the future.
Paul Colin (1892 - 1986) is one of the most well-regarded Art Deco poster artists. He rose to fame in 1925 with his poster for the Revue Negre, which helped catapult the fame of Josephine Baker. Paul Colin spent his career in the performing arts; creating over 1400 posters, as well as designing costumes and sets for various types of performances. His posters are highly sought after.

If there's anything you want to know about posters, vintage or more modern, there's nothing Mr Ross doesn't know. His open and friendly manner helps one to choose the most suitable material whether for decoration, investment or whatever... I can't recommend him highly enough.

Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
