With more than 400 rooms and a central double-helix staircase, Chambord was intended as both a hunting lodge and a monument to royal power. The artist, Charles Hallo (1884–1969), who signed his posters as “Alo,” was a French painter, illustrator, and designer renowned for his travel and railway posters.
