This poster is meant to encourage participation and patriotism in the war effort during World War II. There were different types of government rationing during World War II. One type was called selective rationing, where rationed goods were evenly distributed, giving all citizens an opportunity to purchase set amounts of certain goods. This applied to items such as sugar, meat, butter and shoes. Individuals were required to use ration stamps issued by the government along with money to purchase such goods. The home front pledge was meant to inspire citizens to fight alongside the troops on the home front.

"By keeping the Home Front Pledge you're being true to the gallant American men fighting for your freedom. You're helping to keep our food-shared fairly- shared equally by the rich and the poor. You're helping to keep food prices within the reach of all- families living on a private's allotment- widows making out on insurance pensions" - The Home Front Pledge

Frederick G. Cooper enjoyed a career as one of America's foremost illustrators in the first quarter of the 20th. Century. His "bighead" cartoon characters were seen constantly through out the teens, 20's & 30's in many of the most popular magazines of the day. He did ads for Westinghouse, posters for the War Department, illustrated books and magazines articles and designed alphabets.
