This poster is one of a series completed for SNCF advertising rail travel to different regions of France during the 1950s. In this charming and vibrant poster for The French Riviera by Jacques Dubois, a stylish sunbather shows us her beach ball as the coast unfurls behind her. The palm-tree lined beach is filled with other swimmers soaking up the sun.

This poster depicts the Mediterranean lifestyle of the French Riviera. Cote D'Azur is part of the south of France known as Provence, and includes the major cities of Cannes, Nice, and Marseille. A popular tourist destination, the Cote D'Azur or "Golden Coast" features a warm climate and relaxing atmosphere. The area was developed as a resort region in the mid-19th Century and has attracted the wealthy upper class from across Europe and Russia ever since. Cote D'Azur is known for yachting, casinos, and beaches.

The SNCF is the Societe Nationale de Chemin de Fer - The National Rail Service. Throughout the years, they have commissioned prominent artists to depict well known destinations in France, thereby encouraging train travel by the French as well as by visitors.

Jacques Dubois (1912 - 1994) was an artist that created many posters for SNCF during the late 1940’s through the 1950’s. Unfortunately, there is little background information about the artist.

This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in good condition. The lower left corner area has been restored with some minor spots still remaining. We guarantee the authenticity of all our posters.
