What could be more dangerous than an enraged rattlesnake with blood dripping from its fangs? The answer according to this WWII poster is the ramifications from careless talk about troop movements, ship sailings, and war equipment.

Albert Dorne (1906-1965) learned how to draw after spending hours every week in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He began his artistic career as an apprentice letterer working in an art studio, before starting as a freelance illustrator. His works appeared in many magazines such as Life and The Saturday Evening Post, and in 1943 American Artist magazine recognized him as one of the best and highest paid in the field of advertising illustration. In 1948, Dorne opened the Famous Artists School, a correspondence school for art that had Norman Rockwell as a teacher, among other famous artists.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

  • The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
