This iconic original British World War II propaganda poster features Sir Winston Churchill's immortal words, "Never was so much owed by so many to so few." The quotation comes from his historic speech to the House of Commons on 20 August 1940, delivered during the Battle of Britain. In the address, Churchill paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the Royal Air Force fighter pilots whose defense of Britain against the German Luftwaffe proved decisive during one of the nation's darkest hours. The speech became one of the defining moments of the Second World War and remains among the most celebrated in British history. The striking photographic image of RAF airmen, paired with Churchill's powerful message, created one of the most memorable morale posters issued by H.M. Stationery Office during the war. Produced in the scarce large-format edition measuring approximately 25.25 × 40 inches, this version is significantly rarer than the standard 20 × 30 inch issue. An example of this same large-format poster is preserved in the collection of the Imperial War Museum, London, and is the only other documented example of this edition that we have been able to verify.Sir Winston Churchill (1874–1965) served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. His leadership and inspirational speeches became symbols of British resilience throughout World War II, and his words continue to resonate as some of the most powerful expressions of courage and determination ever delivered. This is an Original Vintage Poster, it is not a reproduction.
