Sabena - See More of Europe - 1958 World's Fair

This poster was created in conjunction with the 1958 World's Fair, which was held in Brussels, Belgium. Here we see a lively scene at the Grand Place, with a SABENA helicopter and airplance both in flight above. Note the famous Atomium architecture in the distance, which still stands today. The 1958 World's Fair was the first held after WWII, and the focus was on a "new" chapter for Europe.

SABENA is an acronym for The Societé Anonyme Belge d'Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne, or Belgian Corporation for Air Navigation Services. It was an airline based in Belgium, started in the 1930s, which flew to European destinations and Belgian colonies. It was the national airline for Belgium until 2001 when its assets were sold off and it became what is today Brussels Airlines.

Aaron Fine (-1962) was a talented poster artist, book illustrator, and playwright. He is best known for his series of Pan Am posters created in early 1950s, a great era for posters. He was also close friends with Andy Warhol, who did the set for his play, "My Blackmailer". Fine died of cancer in 1962.
