This original French advertising poster was created circa 1950 by the twin brothers Jacques and Pierre Bellenger to promote SUD, a French carbonated soft drink. The slogan “La joie... de boire” translates to “The joy of drinking,” emphasizing the pleasure and refreshment associated with the beverage. The oversized SUD trademark and the phrase “Boisson Gazéifiée” (carbonated beverage) reinforce the product's identity. The cheerful imagery and bold colors are characteristic of French beverage advertising during the postwar period.Jacques Bellenger (1909–1985) and Pierre Bellenger (1909–1993) were French twin brothers who collaborated throughout their careers as commercial artists and poster designers, signing their work simply “Bellenger.” Both studied at the Académie Julian in Paris and established a successful advertising studio in the city's 16th arrondissement. Beginning in the 1930s, they created advertising campaigns for numerous French companies, including Bally shoes, Pataugas, Godin stoves, Cristal table water, and Clément Faugier chestnut cream. Their work was distinguished by strong Art Deco influences, vibrant colors, and inventive, often humorous compositions. Following World War II, the brothers expanded their artistic activities beyond commercial posters, developing decorative paintings and objects under the name Decbel, derived from “Décoration Bellenger.” Their collaborative work represents an important contribution to French commercial graphic design of the mid-20th century. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
